Leicester Cathedral Choir – Japan Tour 2005
Day 5 - Monday 17th October |
Breakfast (by now we were more used to the Japanese food and knew to avoid
the fermented mung beans (not tasty)) was followed by choir practice while helpers cleaned
bedrooms. We then had a short expedition into the mountains (well a walk
along the road really) we all had to wear bells to frighten off the brown
bears. These clearly worked extremely well as we didn't see
a single bear, although we did see a small snake, a toad and a variety of
insects.
Back to the centre for a final farewell. The staff held a banner, which
apparently said they hoped we would come back, which we nearly had to sooner
than they hoped as we had forgotten the music. Fortunately one of our
hosts from Toyama was still at the centre and brought it to us by car. Then, off to Kyoto.
After a brief stop at the hotel it was
off to St Mary's for Evensong which went very well. This was followed by tea and
biscuits laid on in the church rooms.
The hotel in Kyoto has good email links
so I hope I will be sending more frequent reports in future.
All the concerts and services so far have been great successes. The concert at
Toyama City Hall was in
front of about 1500 people and the Choir (especially when they sang in
Japanese) got tumultuous applause!
