Leicester Cathedral Choir – Japan Tour 2005
Day 10 - Saturday 22nd October |
|
A
short walk to Rikkyo
University Chapel for rehearsals for the evening concert. After the
rehearsal we were met by our local guides for sightseeing in Tokyo.
We split into groups, the young men and some of the girls went to
Akihabera - or Electric City as it is sometimes called. This is the
home of hundreds of shops selling all manor of electronic items.
Amongst the most unusual of our purchases were a cup-warmer powered
by the USB port on a computer and a Christmas tree which also plugs
into the computer and plays a tune and changes colour! |

Back to the University for another
rehearsal with the Rikkyo Choir. The performance was another
sell-out and both choirs sang wonderfully. The second half of the
concert was a very moving performance of Fauré's Requiem by the
Rikkyo Old-Boys and Old-Girls Choir with a guest soloist, our
Precentor, Stephen Foster. This was their 55th annual performance
which they do to remember those who have passed on during
the year.
Following the concert a
farewell party gave us the chance to enjoy once more the excellent
hospitality of our Tokyo hosts, it was also a chance to say thankyou
and goodbye to some of those who had made our stay in Tokyo so
enjoyable.
