Well wishers of the Cathedral who managed to
get to the AGM will already have learnt the good news. On
that occasion The Friends of Leicester Cathedral were
delighted to announce two ways during the last few months
in which they have been able to support the Cathedral's
work; this is, of course, the main reason for the Friends
very existence. Three new full Choral Scholarships for boys
and girls have been created for the next three years.
Full details can be obtained from The Master of the
Music, Jonathan Gregory (Tel: 0116 248 7476 or email: 'Jonathan.Gregory@LECCofE.org'.
It is the hope of the Committee that these Scholarships
will provide the opportunity for the Cathedral to attract
and train even more boys and girls with musical ability to
become choristers. In addition the Friends have purchased a
laptop computer and projector for the use of the Cathedral
in general, particularly for organ recitals and for other
Cathedral functions. The Committee hopes that this equipment
will be used widely; details can be obtained from the Dean's
office.
In order to give practical support to the work of the
Cathedral The Friends need continually to raise money - this
they do in two ways. Firstly, by membership of The
Association of the Friends of Leicester Cathedral. It is
self evident that the greater the membership of the Friends
(which is open to both the clergy and to the laity) the more
funds the Association has with which to respond to the ever
increasing needs of the Cathedral. Secondly, funds are
raised by means of social events which are open to both
members and non-members alike.
The next social occasion is the 'FRIENDS' WINTER SOIRÉE'
which will be on Friday, November 24th. All who are reading
this should mark this date in ink in their diaries and apply
for tickets without delay. Due to the size of the buildings
available for this event tickets are, alas, definitely
limited. Your attention is particularly drawn to this point.
