Education @ Leicester Cathedral…
is a living framework through which we continue to
build relationships with schools and other educational organisations in the
City, County and further a-field.
More than 1,800 students visited Leicester Cathedral Church of
St. Martin last year.
We deliver a programme of visits which support the RE curriculum, in
particular, through which we share aspects of the Christian faith and the
cathedral in an age and ability appropriate way. We provide opportunities
for participants to gain an insight into the life, key beliefs and
experiences of Christian people in worship, ministry and community, based at
a Christian place of worship and engagement. Visiting the cathedral will
enable pupils to have a dialogue with people of faith in a meaningful and
structured way. We respect the diversity of background and beliefs that our
visitors may have and we welcome all into this place in the spirit of
Christian hospitality. |

Education @ Leicester Cathedral
exists to ensure that all students and staff get the very best out of their
visit. To this end, we are constantly reviewing our programmes to ensure
best practice. We are in the process of applying for the Quality Badge Mark
from the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom. We hope this website
answers your initial queries. We have also included practical information
to help you
plan a visit.
For schools we
offer a wide range of RE learning experiences for Primary and Secondary
pupils, these include guided visits, a series of guided pilgrimages, special
events and activities. Our aim is to support teachers in nurturing the
spiritual, moral, cultural and artistic development of their pupils through
Religious Education and other related curriculum areas. The
City location lends itself to opportunities for other visits to places of
worship, cultural heritage e.g. the Guildhall, central business district
etc.

As well as
school groups we welcome many other groups; please discuss with us how we
can help you. For further discussion of your particular needs please contact
Janet Ingram
If you wish to
lead a group yourself, without a guide, a small range of information
leaflets about the history of the cathedral are available for you to
purchase in advance of your visit. However, we recommend that schools take
advantage of the education programmes.

Once you have
decided on a suitable programme for your pupils, please download a booking
form (see link below) and return to the Bookings Manager,
Peter Collett
Our schools events are now very popular and some bookings are made a year in
advance. We advise booking at least two months before your visit and
ideally a term in advance. Visits are possible on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Advanced
booking is
essential even for self-guided tours since the Cathedral can be closed to
visitors for special services at short notice. The cost of guided visits
and other activities varies (please see detailed programmes).
We look forward to welcoming you; we believe that you will be inspired by
your visit to the Cathedral.
