Additionally, the centre provides facilities to interview
and counsel those in need in privacy, a "Welcome Centre"
for newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees, and a "Carer Centre" for Cancer sufferers and their families,
the latter staffed by volunteers who have lived through the trauma of either having cancer personally or through a family member.
Put simply the outreach of the Cathedral Church of St Martin has the ability and resources to serve the population as:
* The centre accessible for all pastoral care and counselling
* The point of first call for all in need of any kind, regardless of race or creed
* Spearheading the Church's role in the community regeneration in the City and the County and beyond
* A key promotion point for the Cathedral and the Diocesan development in partnership
* A meeting place for Church and Society, commerce, institutions, professions and community groups
* A resource for prayer, contemplation. spiritual nurture and education.
The Cathedral Centre was funded via the Millennium Appeal with major sponsorship
from NEXT plc who gave
considerable help on the refurbishment, and Kirby and West and the Duxbury
Family in donations and work. |
The Cathedral is extremely
grateful for this valuable resource. The Cathedral Centre was formally opened in summer 2001 by HRH The Princess Royal who was Patron of the Millennium Appeal.
